Danskin Triathlon

Back in January, my dear friend Sara called me up and asked me if I was interested in doing a triathlon with her. She was asked the same thing by her dear friend Jenny. I was like "okay, yea sure I'd do something like that". Except she was SERIOUS, she even signed up. Okay, crud now I had to really think long and hard if I really truly wanted to commit to this. Come on, I already had 4 kids in 6 years and they are all still little. Do I have the time? the money? do I even want to? After mulling it over for a month or so, I said YES. I found a workout online for beginner triathletes and started training in May. I followed that workout pretty closely and I can honestly say I was well prepared. The day came and went, I can't believe it is now behind me. I am very happy with my time of 1 hr 40 mins, well under my goal time.It was an amazing experience, something I will never forget. Thank you Jenny for getting Sara and then me to do this!

race morning, just arriving at the park. nerves are high!

over 3000 women participated. check out all those bikes!

ready for the swim

at this point, I am very happy with my decision to rent a really nice triathlon wetsuit which not only kept me warm but most importantly made me buoyant!

and we are off. beautiful weather!

DONE! 20 min swim, very happy with that. The swim went very well for me. I was able to crawl stroke the entire way. I felt calm, I didn't get scared but I was very glad to be out of the water!

onto the 12.4 mile bike.

done with bike in 42 mins, very happy with my bike time. Starting to feel pretty exhausted at this point. I should have planned my eating better. my 5:30am breakfast at this point is LONG gone. next time I will be eating a powerbar right before.

HELLO FINISH LINE! So glad to be done. I majorly pooped out on the run. I expected a much faster run time than I had but I literally ran out of gas! I felt pretty woozy at the finish line, took some Gatorade and oranges to bring my blood sugar up before I felt like myself again. Once I recovered, what an amazing feeling to have accomplished that!

Yahoo! We did it! :)

What a memory we made! Can't wait to do the next one!!!
